Today was the first day of 3D and we briefed about the new project "Between Us and Stuff". It was related to the sculpture and human bodies. To start off the project, I was thinking of making a sculptural and a performance because while I researching, I found a work that has inspired and captivated me and was "Sensorial Hoods". This is because this work was that I want to work like; a face mask and thought that it could be the part of the performance although it is a photography work.
I started collecting all the materials that caught my eyes. This is because, I did not really know where to begin and what to explore with. So, I thought I could get some ideas while looking around the campus. It was failure at first because as I said before, I had no ideas what to explore that is related to human and the sculptures. However, eventually I found some interesting mediums that I could develop in my project and there were plastic wraps, newspapers, nets, bubble wraps, wires and kitchen sieve.
During the class, I spent a lot of time collecting different kinds of materials. So I will probably start collaborating other materials that I have collected earlier together so I have an interesting sculpture in the end. I personally think this is the best to way to find out something crazy because doing this way, I could just make without any plans so it is less harder for me to create something and able to make many drafts as possible. For Monday class, I will be bringing the drafts that I have made and would like to develop more in performance ways.

We were told to carry on our works during the class because the critic was on Thursday which I had have only two days left. To start off making something, I had a conversation with Kaori because I was not sure about what I am doing and she then suggested me to start make anything and document the process. After that, I started to collaborate any materials together as I have done before and saw what it looks like. When I was looking through the photos, I was not quite happy with the results because the materials did not appear good as I expected and the scale was not big enough as well. So, I decided to do something new that could make me happy. As I mentioned that I have little amount of time to do so I have to use the time wisely.
23. Nov 2017
We were told to CRIT other group-mates final pieces and give a talk about how we feel about other peoples work. During my work's critic sessions, for the first time, Lexia said the figure looked like a robot but that is made by paper as well as looked like a human figure. She also said it was quite fascinated because the figure was consisted of the only one shape: triangle (pyramids) which was more interesting to see. Then, Ana and Car mentioned that they were interested in decoration of the figure and was interesting to see lots of different textures going on each pyramid; chicken wire, egg carton and so on. DQ then mentioned that the figure is about the gender issues to be specific, feminism this is because the shape of figure seemed like a women towards to DQ. For Gabriel, the shape was very architecture because the shapes I used was only the pyramids. Last but not least, Max thought the figure was a sandglass (top pyramid: future, and the lower is the past).
After the critic session, I was quite surprised by their opinions because I received very various comments of my figure such as human figure, indicate gender issues through the human body figure, a robot, sandglass and so on. I felt that it was a failure because other classmates did not get what I wanted to convey towards to them. I wanted to talk about balance in human relationship through using different sizes of pyramids and bamboo stick. I personally think it was great idea to use artwork that was inspired by hedgehog's dilemma however, it could be a little bit hard for them to understand the concept of idea of my work. This is because my concept was a little bit heavy, emotional and was a little bit rare topic to convey message towards to them. To develop my work, I should carry on with these shapes could be another way as other people have mentioned such as sandglass (past vs. future), mood doll and so on. I could also use this for young little children educational as they seem playing legos.

The necklace was not enough to present my country, Korea. So I was using a sketchbook to develop the ideas. I had quite several ideas but among them, I decided making a Hanbok. It is one of the Korean traditional clothes and is characterised by vibrant colours and has not included pockets.
In order to make Hanbok, I had to start making body figure first so that Hanbok looks more realistic on that and shows Koreans used to wear back in days. I decided to make a human figure out of a bottle of wine because it has a nice shape that looks similar to the human body.
First of all, I used a mod roc making bases because I wanted to paint as well as, make it as 3D. If I just paint on it, I won't be able to make what I wanted to make and also, had to paint as many layers because it won't be dense as painting on canvas either or paper. I enjoyed using mod roc because I have done it in the plaster work shop before and was not hard as cutting metals.
Second of all, I had two different parts of clothes. This is because for Hanbok, it consists two parts; one is called Jeogori, a blouse shirt or a jacket, and other one is Chima, a wrap-around skirt, which is usually worn full. I also used mod roc for making Jeogori and Chima because this is the easier way to create them in a short time. On the other hand, I had to use chicken wire because it helps the skirt to look amply as well as it is robust to stand the skirt properly.
I think what I was making from today was quite intriguing because I am making something that I wanted to do and also felt very familiar with because I was creating that I know very well, Hanbok.
5. Dec. 2017
Today I was just carried out what I have done a day before. I cutout chicken wire to make my sculpture looking as 3D. Cutting the chicken wire was awful because it was so much stronger than I thought. Afterwards, I usually work with mod roc but in this time, I started making plaster to cover the chicken wire. It was my first time ever using plaster as a material. The reason why I utilised plaster is because I wanted to explore with materials that I am unfamiliar with.
During the plaster work shop, I had some difficulties. While I was trying to cover the wire with scrims with plaster together then it did not work. This was because the plaster that I made for the first time was too liquid to apply on the surface of the wire. Therefore, the size of square of scrim was too big to making it neat so these reasons why I was quite frustrating. Hence, I just decided to work with the both the plaster and mod roc at the same time. I have learnt that the combination of both of materials are not too bad. This is because whenever I applied the plaster on to the wire, used mod roc at the same time so it gets harder and neater.
7. Dec. 2017
Today was the final day to present our works, we were told to installation the sculptures, and had critics. During the time, I received both the positive and negative feedbacks. First of all, some people mentioned my final piece (tears) was looking very abstract with the primary colours and that make the piece a bit curious and mysterious. Secondly, Sirine and Luo mentioned it looks like a side profile that crying for some reasons. They also said for the circles, they thought it look like piercings because it had several circles that goes in the sculpture. Thirdly, Stephanie said it was interesting to see the prat that I did not finish layering the plaster on the bottom because they were able to see what is going on inside and also, the uses of chicken wire to make as 3D was captivated them. Elise then said the acrylic paint that I used was looking veins (bloods) for the body because there are different colours and had on the middle of the white sculpture. Therefore, she added that the piece would be better looking with title, description, and some texts. This is because the viewers might understand in the other way than I expected to be.
On the other hand, for the Korean traditional clothes, Hanbok, they clearly could understand that is related to both the cultural and traditional. Sirine said it is interesting to see very various colours in one figure and was colourful. Also, Elise mentioned that the piece would be better with if it had some movements like dancing, band to other way; stretch backwards and so on. This is because just standing straight, would be more outstanding with other gestures.
To conclude, I do enjoying the critic session because it gives you various feedbacks that I do not notice while making the piece and also people tell me how they feel about the work so I think it is great opportunity to learn and develop my works from others. I also felt that I need to work with the time management because sometimes I rushed my works because of the lack of time. I wish I could enhance use of time and wisely for the next coming projects. I reflected upon all of these feedbacks and suggestions and this could establish my pieces in a successful way.
15. Dec. 2017
The Christmas holidays has begun. Since I am not going back to my country for the holidays, I decided to get some work done. During the part 2 progress tutorial, Karen said there has many exciting ideas and material experiments on my sketchbook. She added that the energy should be placed beyond the pages and make more 3D outcomes.
I decided making some 3D pieces during the holidays. I have been exploring with various materials on the sketchbook and combining many kinds of materials together to see how theyll appear. The process has made me to build the knowledge of materials also, encouraged me to incorporating unconventional materials each project. I started making the physical outcomes (three dimensional pieces) that was including on sketchbook. I felt happy because I was developing several ideas to help the final piece from the part 2 and currently now I am using that idea to build a piece besides the previous work. To add that I was really enjoying what I did today; making some other 3D works. I should continue with the other project: x-mas project that 3D class given.
19. Dec. 2017
To enhance my drawings, I always try to continue and develop my voice as an artist and create series of works through which I can relate to the world. During the holidays, I explored my arts ability to inspire and diversely communicate, connecting people together to confront current pressing issues of today. For example, the serious problem in North Korea, successfully completed the missile test. Also, the slavery in Africa. I was studying these current worldwide issues more in depth. This will be the part of my portfolio in the future.
2, January, 2018
Two days have left until the school starts. I decided researching about the next coming project "Park". There were lots of informations, interesting websites (bibliography) to see, and have ideas of what the project is about. For me, there are always useful because when theres a problem that I do not understand, and do not know how to solve the next step, bibliography and many articles giving me the opportunity to understand the concept. Also, the informations that providing me always connected to the further artists and artworks. I feel that I am able to explore broaden my thinking process by exposing me to numerous artists and artworks that I have not known. During the research, I always try open up myself to different ways of interpreting our given projects, and this is one of the positive way to learn and engage in new given works.
Today, I used the library to research and find some informations. For me, it was successful because I was able to understand and see many captivating works. Regarding to the library, I should also find research from the books which one of the best facilities.
8, January, 2018
To start off the day, we were given a presentation about already made sculptures and some sculptures placed in public by various artists that I have not previously known. For me, I always felt that it is such a great opportunity to learn and approach many artists through the presentation during the class. I then carried on researching different works from the bibliography on the project brief. This is because, I have not found the final idea yet, I decided researching more.
Also, I was working on the time management for the Park project. This is because I sometime rush to create the final piece so I was considered organise everything at once so that I am able to accomplish on time.
9, January, 2018
In class, we were told to do a group discussion about the health, safety and legacy for the park project. I then carried on brainstorming of my several ideas. Yet, I was not sure which idea to pick so, I was exploring many ideas as soon as possible. In the end, there are few ideas that I really like, one of the idea is creating a wall on the ground of the park and that is related to my country. Be specific, this is the history of Korea. The division of Korea between North and South Korea occurred after World War II and the Korean war. Therefore, there is a 38 parallel which placed in the middle of these countries. The reason why I like this idea is because I always wanted to talk and make an artwork about the political issues. It can be legal but for me, I always want to talk a little bit of the history of my country and the current issues around the world.
One other idea that is quite similar is making a bar graph of how many defectors escape north korea. It is also political issues, and this is one of the serious problem in South Korea. This is because most of the North Koreans escape to China either or South Korea. I then show a line graph at the top of the bar graph showing that the escaped population has been growing/increasing. Lastly, decorating the statics around more looks like some of people try to escape such as use the materials to show; fences, wires and CCTV.
After discussion with Kaori, I received some feedbacks. She said, if there has too much informations on the final piece, then the audience would not able to understand the story of the piece. She then suggested me creating simple that is related to my idea; make a barrier that I could talk about the refugees issues. Also, using safe materials that do not make any health issues in the future.
10, January, 2018
Today is a self directed study day. I decided making six different ideas/drafts on the printed image of the Waterlow Park. There are many places that I was interested in but, I decided to place my installation on the green grass/ ground of the park. By making nine different ideas on the printed image, I am able to sort out what my final piece will looks like and also, complete the proposal for tomorrow. I really felt that there is time management and limited is restricting because this project is huge and the schedule is packed.
In the end, I sorted out what to make in the park, now I have to focus on the materials. Since, 3D students and I will be presenting the works in public so I have to be careful of the materials.
16, January, 2017
Today in class, I was researching my materials such as dummy fake CCTV’s annd steel meshes. I have found out that buying the both materials will cost lots of money. For the steel mesh, it costs around 40-50 pounds just buying for one side which is a lot than I thought.
While I was researching, I found really great structure/ module that is already wrought. Fortunately, I could use it however, the structure was not robust at all so I decided adding more thicker metals robs.
End of the class, Kaori and I had a discussion buying fake CCTVs online because it will cost a little bit of money as well and have to buy more than 10 pieces. The reason why I wanted to buy is because I wanted the top of structure look very dense by the numerous CCTVs and real. Then, the audiences may understand my ideas/messages directly. She then suggested me making several instead because it will cost less than just buying them online. I determined that I will buy few dummy fake CCTVs online as well as, make some of them by myself.
18, January, 2018
Today I was just carried out what I have done a day ago. In my opinion, working in the metal workshop went pretty well! I was able to finish what I planned earlier this morning; cut six of 8mm metal steel robs, weld two metal robs on each side of the sculpture and smoothing the edge of the corners. For me, cutting the 8mm metal robs and smoothing the corners were the hardest thing so far. This is because it was my first time ever using the metal workshop properly and everything, (machine, materials) was quite new to me.
I personally think that I always trying new things with different kinds of materials. Each project, I am creating works from different workshop. The most recent works, I was working in the ceramic/plastic workshop. Now, I have been making my piece for the park project in the metal which is such a great opportunity to broaden my technical skills.
22, January, 2018
During the class, I was carried out with bending the robs on the last side of the structure. Bending the metal steel rob was much harder than I expected. I thought I could just push them to the opposite sides however, used full of my strengths and weights on each of them. Afterwards, the robs was looking more interesting than I thought. It was better than cutting middle of it. This is because regarding my first plan, was supposed to bend and cut some robs and that could represent that people destroying and escaping the space. However, due to the safety issues, I was not allowed to follow my plan. Nevertheless, I am happy that I could bend.
Whilst, I was concerned about bending in several directions. This is because, I would like to make the structure naturally bended and do not want them to look artificial so, one of the classmates, Jun Ho helped performing. By doing so, I was able to understand how the people would escaped. Therefore, I personally think It would be great if I actually went inside of the structure and make a performance during the publication.
Also, I received the fake dummy CCTV cameras and I will be installing them on the top of the structure on the actual day when the class install in the park.
Evaluation
For the park project, I set out to achieve to create a piece of sculpture in the public environment space and also, lasted against the weather. I created a piece of sculpture and was a cage also looked a smaller version of jail with CCTV cameras on top of it. I think it is interesting to look back on intensions to produce something that related to the government and political. People sometime feel that someone watch them way too much and eventually they are CCTV cameras. This piece was not really related to the park where it has such a nice and beautiful nature and environment. However for me, I wanted to talk about the issues that is happening in the country as well as the whole world. The reason why I chose to create this was because I wanted to share the messages about the issue to the public and also, tell them they're not the only one who feel that way. Therefore, I created one of the side of the piece that has no grids and bended a little bit. I used them to represent that people trying to escape and fight against the government and politicians.
Whilst producing the final piece, I faced small difficulties. Cutting 8mm metal steel robs and welding each rob together was harder than I expected. I think it is because I never done if before also it was actually my first time ever using the metal workshop. It was such an amazing experience working in the workshop because whenever theres new project began, I always try working in the workshop that I never explored before. I think I have such a great opportunity to learn technical skills during the time.
One of the classmates, Jun Ho helped with the actions to be specific, he was being one of the person who is trying to get out from the cage-structure. It was helpful knowing how the people are escaping from the given space. Also, while I was working in the metal work shop, I was new to everything so the metal technician helped teaching me how to use all the supplies and the way to do.
There are several things I would do differently in the future. First of all, I would change the location of my installation. This is because I thought my selected place is the place that people would come through because there was a Lux right above. When I was in the Waterlow park during the exhibit time, there was tiny number of people which is very unexpected. I would like to change to the centre of the park where a lot of people walk by. Secondly, I should’ve made something related to the “nature” or more like park. This is because I realised that my final piece was too deep to be placed in the park. The reason why I made my piece is because I wanted to explore and share my ideas to the public where people see naturally. I would like to work something that is more nature and environmental. Last but not least, I would like to make piece in a large scale. This is because, it would’ve been nicer If I make it more wider and follow my first plan; allow the audiences to go inside of the structure and see what is going on inside.
Monday 20. Nov. 2017
Today in class, I continued developing the work that I have done so far. Yet, I haven't decided my final decision. I was just carried out with collaging some medias together on the white wall, and sketchbook to see many other ideas. By doing so, I was able to find some interesting source for the final piece. Whenever I made something that captivated me I was always documenting them and tried further steps like experimental (add more materials to stand out more in my style;colourful). I personally think that it has both the positives and negatives. It did not go as well as I thought this is because I had such range of materials, this took a lot of time. However, as I explored with wide range of materials, this made my project more experimental. As I mentioned, I had both pros and cons while doing researching, experiment with many kind of mediums.
I enjoyed what I did today because I was able to gather weird and interesting materials together that I found from the garbage by the street. I felt that finding things from garbage is very disgusting but, I was always able to get a lot of things that I could work with which makes me happy. For the next class, I would like to develop collaging materials and produce as many as possible.
22. Nov. 2017
Today is the self directed study time so I was trying to finish making the final piece before the CRIT which is tomorrow. During the time, I could not decided what to make so I was drawing anything on the sketchbook. Among many other ideas, I found one interesting idea about human and humans relationship to be specific, I wanted to explore with something about balancing the humans relationship but still making the sculpture of human body.
This is because I was inspired by reading an article about hedgehog's dilemma last time. It was a brief about the dilemma; It can describe as a metaphor about the challenges of human relationship (human intimacy). Also, the specific meaning is: A group of hedgehogs seek to move close to one another to share heat during the winter weather. They must remain apart, however, as they cannot avoid hurting one another with their sharp spines.
In order to make the human figure, I decided to use the all different kinds of medias because I had many weird medias such as heatkeeper panels, clear plastic cartons, chicken wires, packing box, bubble wrap and etc. Firstly, I made a lot of pyramids using with the packing boxes and styrofoam for the human figure because, the body will be consisted of the pyramids only. I thought these two materials are the strongest and most stable to make a pyramid and stand. To make a pyramid, I cut three triangles first and then stick each other with the tape. While I was cutting, I realised that human is not always accurate because whenever I cut off the materials, it was not always straight and was hard for me to stick them accurately.
I then experimented with combining the materials and make different patterns for decorating the human figure later on. This process took so much time because I was not sure which goes well with which and as I mentioned before I wanted to use most of the materials that I have got so I had to use them wisely. While I was making, I had little bit difficulties with the time management. Although lack of the time, I was able to finish making the sculpture before the critic. While I was doing it, I realised that my plan could always changing in the future. This is because I already planned about what sculpture and which materials I will be using for and had even conversation with tutors, Alan and Kaori however, eventually I changed my mind to make the human figure instead. I felt that this is one of the process of learning and developing the ideas more specifically.
27. Nov. 2017
Today in class, we were told to carry out what we have done so far. For me, I was thinking wether I should develop the previous work or start a new project. This is because I received several feedbacks that I could improve from the last critic session. I think that I liked the idea of my last idea because it had quite deep meaning of work although the figure was a little bit abstract. During the class, I was developing the first part of “Between us and stuff” through using sketchbook. Whenever I start a new project, the sketchbook provides me a lot of things, be specific, able to develop the ideas with my thinking. It also has shown the process what I have making so far so it is easier knowing what to improve than just searching on the internet. I personally think that using the sketchbook is important as research both the primary and secondary.
To conclude, I was just developing my previous work with the feedbacks that I received from the other classmates. I will be making sculptures thats related to the last work and make series in the end.
30. Nov. 2017
To start off the day, I have researched the work of Richard Deacon because I was inspired by watching his works during the lecture earlier in this morning. Most of his sculptures, he uses of various curve lines into the works and that has inspired me to consider studying in depth of curves. I have designed several sculpture ideas and decided to use the curves into the final piece. Actually, I have two plans for the critic on 7th Dec. As I mentioned before, I will be making a jewellery besides the other work. This is because it could be related to the project part two, language of objects. Also, I was inspired by Kula jewelry from the lecture and that are related to both cultural and political. On the other hand, I will be making the big scale of sculpture as well and that I was impressed by Richard Deacon. I will start making both of them as soon as possible before Thursday.
1. Dec. 2017
Today was a self directed study time and I believed that I have to use the time wisely. As I mentioned earlier, I was inspired by Kula Jewerly from the last lecture and they were related to both the cultural and political. So I started designing the necklace that represents my home country, Korea. I had quite range of materials such as different colours of tapes, bubble wrap, newspaper, knitting yarn, kitchen foil, a wire and etc. I decided using wires to be the base and then used colour tapes on top of wire. I thought it could be colourful as well as symbolising the national flag of Korea. It has four different colours; red, blue, white and black. I rolled tapes over the wire in several ways like using different sizes of each colour. On the other hand, I used some other materials as well. They are clays, kitchen foil, different size of wire to decorate the necklace. I was enjoying what I was doing today because I am making something that is related to my country so It was understandable and enjoyable. For me, If I motivated a project that I am not interested in then, the result won't be great. I hoping that I could use with the other work.
4. Dec. 2017
To start off the day, Karen and I had a tutorial about both the personal statement and ideas for the final piece. She mentioned that I really have to start by now because the critic is in three days. Afterwards, I looked forward to finding materials for my sculpture. What I was thinking is that I wanted to make the wood as 3D and curve the wood. However, the head from the wood workshop said that here is no possibility to curve the wood within three days. This is because the wood I wanted to get was consisted of many layers of woods and this is why I will be taking so much time to curve the shapes. He added that it will cost lots of money as well as they are heavy. Eventually, he suggested using other materials instead.
After that, I was thinking of using styrofoam because I have used it before and was easy to shape compared to wood. However, Karen recommend making a base underneath the wood and then, using chicken wire to make it 3D.
To cut the wood that I bought earlier ago, I had to use a jigsaw tool by my own because I missed the wood workshop induction last time. Jigsaw tool was quite hard to use because it was my first time however, I ended up enjoying using it.
6. Dec. 2017
Today was the last opportunity to finish the work. I was finishing the plaster because I could not finish some part from last day. To add that I did not apply plaster on some of the chicken wire because I wanted the viewers to know what kind of materials I have been used and see what is going on inside.
After that, I documented the final view of plaster because I wanted to design it. So I printed them to see some ideas, First thing I found out was the plaster was looking like a side portrait. I made a decision using the primary colours; red, blue and yellow. The reason why I used these colours was I used them in the last project and other classmates said it was visualised and caught their attention since I used three colours only. I was using the technique constantly. Therefore, primary colours were used to illustrate tears on the figure. Each primary colour represented different emotions expressed by humans, for example the red droplets symbolise the emotion of anger, blue to embody the feeling of depression (sadness) and yellow as a representation for the search for peace in every one of us.
For the primary colours, I used dripping technique with acrylic paint. I thought this is useful for my piece because I wanted the tears rolled down the cheeks. I used water with acrylic paint however, it was not the best method because it was diluting the acrylic paint so the binder breaks so was not able to stick to the surface. It also loses its strength. I have learnt that I just need a little bit of water to mix with the acrylic paint.
On the other hand, I used wires and made them go inside the sculpture and these are meant to show how people protect themselves out of fear. I also wanted to express the pain and stress that people experience through anxieties, friendship, social, work and etc.
At night, I was carried out painting on my Hanbok. As I mentioned before it is characterized by vibrant colours and simple lines so I decided painting the jeogori(the jacket) very colourful. It was interesting to paint because I felt that I was designing my own Hanbok. Also, I was trying hard to paint details because this will be presented with the necklace that I made earlier.
To evaluate, I love painting and drawing more than making something physically however, this unit (part) has changed my perspective of 3D. This is because I was able to collect range of materials, and see the process and improvements by the given times so I was able to see how I am improving. I do enjoying 3D works and cannot wait for the critic session tomorrow.
13. Dec. 2017
During the part two progress tutorial, I received several feedbacks that I could develop my works and workflow in better ways. Thus, for today I decided to develop the work that I have done so far. First thing I was doing was putting more efforts onto the sketch book. This is because I could not complete some pages as well as, I want to experiment with many kind of materials more again and put my crazy ideas. As I said before, sketch book is the best way for me to explore my minds with carious materials although it sometime take a bit longer to make something physically. Last but not least I was editing my research. This is because while I was discussing with Karen, suggested me to put sources that I found images of artists work. She therefore said that it is important for tutors to see where I collect and use the images from. I personally think that during the course, I have discovered that both the primary and secondary research are very important for the creative process. I was able to learn how research is crucial and develop the ideas from the inspiration by various artists.
18. Dec. 2017
X-mas project has begun, the 3D class given me. The project is about creating the work in response to a site which could be somewhere and everywhere. The context of a location is the most important part of the project. It is quite similar to one of the GCD project that I have done in diagnostic group (both the location and text was the most important factor).
I was researching the artworks on the project brief and was really interesting to see the artworks. I especially like “Making Do and Getting By” by Richard Wentworth. This is because its not just one piece of work, Wentworth created many works (photos) that related to the topic , and each photography have been telling me that each has different stories and able to get different perspectives from each person. I definitely like about his concept of the work.
I was also researching several sites, places near where I live (Finsbury Park) because I thought this is one of the best way I could get inspiration and get some ideas of the context of a location. By doing so, I was able to get some ideas and develop in different ways.
24, December, 2017
3D work over the holidays.
Today, self-directed study time, I was working on making 3D works. As I mentioned before, Karen suggested me to make more exciting ideas and material experiments beyond the pages. For today, I decided using the newspaper as the materials. I was researching some artworks that is based on newspapers. Regarding using the newspaper, we have known that newspaper is the way to inform people about many informations, and after reading that, they do not use newspaper to read anymore. Unfortunately, it could be wasted. For me,I used it as the material for this project and this source was the most important part of my work.
I cutout many of newspapers horizontally and I then tried out on the sketch book if It was a great idea to be used. It was looking very cool and received the results that I wanted to get. I then moved to action on designing the items (materials); a Pringles bottle, and two different sizes of empty water bottles. From my experienced, the Pringles, it was very easy to attach the newspapers on the surface of it, however, for the two water bottles, hard to stick to because the design of the surface was very uneven and rough. So it is not that neat comparing to the Pringles. For the other, I just attached the materials randomly and looked very cool, it looks like one of the random newspaper textiles that printed on T-shirt. Next time, I will be focusing on how to develop them as a decoration and also, how to make these as the installation.

First day of the second semester. I was very excited to start the new project as well as concerned about it. I think I always have the same feeling whenever I starts the new project. During the presentation, it was great that 3D students will show the work in external spaces in various locations around the park, which means that I have an opportunity to show my work (that is any scaled) within the space also, there was no limited space to present the works.
When the whole class went to the Waterlow Park, I was really surprised by the area because it was even bigger than I expected. Also, there were many places that I would like to work within. Therefore, since i have three more weeks to prepare, I should be more careful of what I am doing for the next three weeks because I have to consider of the concept of the work, materials, weather and so on. For this time, I need to work on the time management and use both the time and materials wisely. I have written some ideas and did some brainstorming of this recent project.

Having a discussion with the tutor about the final ideas was mostly important for today’s class. This is because as I mentioned before, this projects has to done within three weeks which is not that long. Also, I have to done something in each class.
During the conversation with my tutor, Karen, I felt very awful by myself. This is because there are some ideas that I have to put away. One of the idea was very political regarding North Korea defectors through the sculpture. According to Karen, she said this idea is not related enough to the park and has to be “Site Specific” and also, it will cost a lot to build. The other one was building either dominos or walls in the middle of the park, however, it would not able to stand for a long time.
Finally, I was allowed to make my last idea. It was about CCTVS. Be specific, I have found out that there are many CCTVs in this country, United Kingdom. I sometime feel that people are watching from the top of the building. Karen also added that U.K has the most CCTVs in the European countries. So I was even more wanted to talk about it in public space. I was quite happy that I am able to use one of my idea that I made earlier.
To evaluate today's class, I found out that having many ideas is great however, has to be related to the aims of the project what it means. I should be more careful reading the project brief and what the project is about. I cannot wait to build my sculpture in public!

For today, I decided making the smaller version model for my final piece if it looks better without the cross fix (grids). This is because making the piece without grids was my plan however, I was not able to find the steel mesh, fencing that has not including the grids.
During the work shop, I was making the model and went pretty well. I really do like that I was able to work and try out with the given materials from the work shop and also, I could see the difficulties, as well as, found severals ways to develop for making the final piece in the future. However, I had some difficulties. Firstly, it took a little bit more time cutting the copper robs than I expected. I think it was because they were not cut very accurate at first. Also, they weren’t straight enough so had to re-touch each of them making very straight and stable. For me, while I was experimenting, it was such a goo practice to try out with the chosen materials.
Also, the metal workshop technician has suggested me buying the steel meshes on the Internet because, although they are expensive, they are more neater, accurate and would not take much time as making by my own.

I finished off the module earlier this morning. I would like to say the module that I made was successful as well as failure. The reason why I think it was successful is because I was able making the module that I wanted it to be. However, as I mentioned before, the copper steel was not standing properly so I had to strength each of them. Also,
In the afternoon, I spent the whole time using the angle grinder to make the corners smoother on the bigger sculpture. This is because the bigger sculpture was already made few months ago and was very rust.

Today is the final day for installing everything in the Waterlow Park. For me, I just installed the CCTV cameras on the top of the structure that I made. Although I had four cameras only, it appeared amazing. To evaluate, the park project is done successfully and I am quite proud of myself. Because, I was able to follow the action plan that I made earlier so I did not rush at all. This is one of my favourite project Ive ever done during the foundation course!
